Soup's on

From creamy veloutés using winter vegetables to a Vietnamese grilled eggplant hot pot - not to mention my own minestrones (grazie to my Italian Aunt Maria in Rome) and soupe à l'oignon, just ask my French in-laws - there's enough chill left in the air to make soup the hottest thing since the return of bone broth (which, in my family, never went away). - BPJ

Standing order

No stools or chairs here: find a space and squeeze in at the counter for innovative French tapas and fabulous wines by the glass or bottle.

Où est la clim?

Paris has noticeably cooled down but should la canicule return there are plenty of places where AC is in full force.

We almost needed coats at L'Avant Comptoir, an indulgent wine+tapas bar dear to my heart that I wrote up in The Good Life France Magazine.

A bouillon in Pigalle

Bouillons were after-market soup kitchens in days of old and this one lives up to the tradition of elegance, simplicity, great prices, great food.
